Concerts Penzance celebrate the Great American Songbook on Saturday 9th November with Gershwin and friends: Who could ask for anything else?   Armenian soprano Anush Hovhannisyan is joined by pianist and tenor Sam Jewison in a programme of music by George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Ivor Berlin, Frederick Loewe and Duke Ellington, bringing Broadway and Hollywood to the centre of Penzance.

Armenian soprano Anush Hovhannisyan performed in Penzance last year and the audience were simply blown away – her stage presence was so powerful the audience were captivated before she had even sung a note, and when she did sing the audience begged for more!  Finalist in the Cardiff Singer of the World competition in 2017, Anush takes a break from her busy leading-role touring with Welsh National Opera to visit Penzance again.  She is joined by multi-talented tenor, pianist and conductor Sam Jewison, whose popular performances of multi-genre repertoire are regularly enjoyed in London venues such as Camden’s famous Jazz Café, Crazy Coqs, Piccadilly, Grand Caffé Concerto in Shepherds Bush and many other venues across Britain and Italy.  Together they create a truly inspirational team.

“Anush Hovhannisyan sweeps all before her with her bright, lyric soprano and tall, handsome figure. ...this was a “star is born” moment”
